‘Their work is beautiful, engaging and provocative.’ – Phil Tumataroa, Ngai Tahu

In 2009 Storybox was invited by the Christchurch Arts Festival to create an installation that would capture the heart of  the festival in the center of the city. The result was a site-specific double-stranded celebration of the Ngai Tahu iwi called ‘Waharoa’ or gateway.

Presented across twelve containers stacked in towers with eight screens displaying the final video works, the installation contained a combination of multi-screen documentary and augmented reality utilizing open frameworks.

The result was a unique large scale experience for the viewer that presented different material on each visit.  Ngai Tahu representatives felt the project exceeded the brief of placing Ngāi Tahu stories in a leading position within the festival Winter Garden.
